The 9th edition aligns with the COP30 global consensus of "From Commitment to Action" and the historic entry into force of the High Seas Treaty in 2026. Focusing on four key themes β€” circular economy, ocean conservation, climate resilience, and biodiversity β€” the competition features four themed tracks and one open creative track, encouraging designers worldwide to drive environmental restoration and sustainable development through innovative practice.

Theme Interpretation

COP30 convened in BelΓ©m, Brazil in 2025, centering on the theme "From Commitment to Action" and emphasizing the global imperative to shift from setting climate goals to concrete implementation. In January 2026, the High Seas Treaty officially entered into force, marking the first-ever multilateral mechanism to protect two-thirds of the world's oceans.

The 9th edition adopts "Regenerate for the Future" as its overarching theme, urging designers to move beyond "reducing harm" toward a regenerative design philosophy of "active restoration." The competition establishes four themed tracks focusing on circular economy, marine ecology, climate adaptation, and biodiversity, each specifying three design directions. An open creative track is also available, encouraging participants to create freely with environmental protection at the core.
